Angie

Ever since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I’ve known that I wanted to be an artist. I drew all through my childhood, and when I was in my mid teens, I turned my attention to painting. I mainly did it for enjoyment, but did sell some to friends and community members for some extra money. At one point, someone suggested I try selling my work on eBay. That was the start of my business, which produced over a thousand original paintings spread across four continents. That was great, but I kept struggling with my decision to be an artist full time, and tried other things. Several years and several “careers” later, I’ve come back to my first love- art.

I’ve always been interested in tattoos. I remember always getting in trouble for drawing on myself while I was at school! I lived in a small town though, and didn’t know who to talk to about getting into it, or even getting one; it was still a bit of a “frowned upon” thing. When I was in my early twenties, I moved to Calgary where I met Amber Thorpe, who gave me my long overdue first tattoo. We became fast friends and decided that it was time to move somewhere else; we had both grown tired of the West, and she wanted to open her own shop somewhere. So after much deliberation, we chose Halifax!

I helped her open the shop in 2006 and I worked part time on and off until 2009, when she hired me full time as a manager and then agreed to teach me to tattoo! I’ve been apprenticing under her since then, and I absolutely LOVE my job. There is nothing better in this world than waking up excited to go to work! I still paint on the side, but the majority of my focus is tattooing.

I enjoy doing pretty much any style of tattoo. I like lettering, girly stuff, cartoon-ish with bold lines and bright colors, and more recently have fallen in love with black and grey… but I’m really open to anything! I’m still learning so much and eager to try new themes and styles.
